Company

Logo

Daylight is an American success story. Founded in 1977, when cross-country transit times averaged 7 to 15 days, the company revolutionized the industry. Through innovations such as two-driver sleeper teams, Daylight reduced coast-to-coast transit times to 2 to 3 days. The company has experienced steady growth over the past four decades and is now one of the nation's leading expedited LTL carriers.

Overview

Valere partnered with Daylight to revolutionize the trucking logistics industry by developing a comprehensive application spanning six interconnected workstreams: Inbound, Outbound, Dispatch Portal, Dispatch Driver App (mobile), Linehaul, and Dock Automation. This innovative solution modernized workflows, reduced manual labor, and established a scalable system designed to improve efficiency and unlock new revenue streams through white-label licensing.

As a result of our engagement, Daylight was able to modernize their operations through the development of APEX, a robust system spanning six interconnected workstreams that streamlined inbound and outbound planning, dispatch, linehaul, and dock automation. This transformation not only improved operational reliability and scalability but also empowered Daylight's business teams with actionable insights, opening new pathways for innovation in their nearly 50-year legacy of industry leadership.

Challenge

Daylight's trucking operations faced numerous challenges caused by outdated systems:

Manual Processes: Inbound planning required up to 8 hours of manual work.

  • Shipment Delays: Outbound planning relied on inefficient manual coordination.
  • Incompatible Tools: Dispatch operations used a third-party application that didn’t integrate with current systems.
  • Error-Prone Workflows: Linehaul management and dock operations were hampered by physical tools and a lack of real-time communication.
  • User Experience Issues: Clunky interfaces across all systems reduced productivity and user adoption.

They [Valere] provided an exceptional experience by completing our project on time and within budget. With their expert guidance, meticulous planning, and unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction, they ensured a seamless journey that resulted in improved efficiency and cost savings. I highly recommend Valere for their customer-centric approach and ability to deliver outstanding results.

Solution

Valere designed and implemented a comprehensive Unified Application Design to address inefficiencies in Daylight's trucking logistics operations. The solution spans six interconnected workstreams, modernizing operations across inbound and outbound planning, dispatch, linehaul, and dock automation.

Unified Design System

  • Leveraged Material UI (MUI) with custom components to create a cohesive design system across all platforms.
  • Standardized user interfaces for seamless experiences.

Agile Development:

  • Used Figma prototypes and agile sprints for iterative development, ensuring alignment with real-world operations.

Modernized Workflows:

  • Introduced digital interfaces for dock operations, replacing physical tools with real-time shipment tracking.
  • Enhanced planning tools with drag-and-drop functionality and interactive views (Map, Tile, List).
  • Digitized dispatch operations for dynamic route assignments and real-time driver monitoring.

Results

  • Inbound Planning: Reduced manual planning time by 50% (8 hours → 4 hours) with streamlined workflows and interactive views.
  • Outbound Planning: Improved shipment accuracy and reduced delays with real-time syncing to Truckmate.
  • Dispatch Operations: Centralized dispatch tools simplified route management, with real-time tracking for drivers and clear dashboards for dispatchers.
  • Dock Automation: Digital tools improved accuracy, visibility, and communication, enabling supervisors to oversee operations through tablet interfaces.
  • Scalability: Delivered a white-labeled solution for licensing to other logistics companies, creating additional revenue streams.
